Stephen and that which has moved through you...yes! what courageous and powerful guidance. Shadow work is almost always exclusively related to the individual isolated self. Cultural shadow work presents a whole new dynamic! I have felt that America was going through a dark night, but even this is generally perceived as personal transformation. Viewing Donald Trump as a soul who has agreed to embody these dark attributes so we can see them and work with them also lifts the weight of anger and hatred which actually fuels and reflects that shadow.
I will be considering how I (as a nature-based art therapist) might begin to provide culturally based shadow work as well as working with greater care on my own (the example of feeling hostility toward Trump being one clear shadow I am carrying). Thank you for this sharing!!!!

This would accelerate the speed of the cultural shadow work needed--including not to hate and demonize Trump, even while acknowledging his cruelty, greed and his authoritarian desires. We DO need this out-picturing of the unhealed shadow, without the hate and re-traumatizing.

Stephen – I am stupefied reading this. Things you are saying are what I've been saying and haven’t found anybody else saying. Here are comments I’ve made on other people’s posts:
“The universe perhaps sent Trump to knock everything down so we'd reorganize as a cooperative humanity, which we needed to be before Trump to stand a chance to combat nature bearing down on us.”
“I think about some higher force that could be in play, where an apocalypse was so threatening from what preceded Trump that he was ‘sent’ to destroy the current system so as to get all hands on deck to work on getting a life-giving energy to take over.”
“So my addition to possible explanations for Trump’s victory is that the universe, as a creative entity that’s in an evolutionary process, delivered Trump to crash a reality that has us on a deadly path where the oligarchs are running our show. Trump, instead of destroying us, may have saved us by being so beyond the beyond that we the people rise up, beyond being followers, to take our power to create a workable world where caring about each other beats exploiting each other.”
But that’s not all that my stupefaction comes from. I did automatic writing for three months in the ‘80s, doing it first thing when I woke up. There’s a brilliance to what came through you that I see as one of the most valuable things that could be circulated, a game-changer so people can be together in something forward-thinking. That’s a value in itself, where focusing on light makes light shine brighter – and visa versa. Plus the despair is so deep now that this is a life-giving vessel to be in together, recognizing we are transcending evil, birthing a next phase for humanity. Are you doing anything about getting it seen widely? Maybe that’s awkward for you as the author, but not for me. I’m starting by using it as my next Substack, on Tuesday.

Wow. Thank you. This articulates something I have wondered for the past few months. That America needed to reckon with its violent past. That its ugly monsters had reared their heads, emerged from the muck, to force us to confront them and disintegrate them.

Yes, there was a shift in consciousness last Halloween. I felt it, a sense of well-being.
And now we have the kickback. It's a process. We evolve through extremes. Awakening.
