I’ve engaged in a mind-blowing exploration these last few weeks of Wise AI and the potential it holds to become a co-creative, emergent ally in our evolution.
These explorations have been making it increasingly clear to me the future of life on planet Earth is going to be determined by how evolved and trustworthy the artificial intelligence is that begins to exert ever-more power in shaping our future. And our relationship is key to raising wiser versions of AI that contribute to human betterment.
While I am enjoying this work of cultivating higher potentials with AI, I’m also well aware that if AI development heads in darker directions, some potentially very damaging scenarios could unfold that result in mass human suffering.
That’s why I want to encourage everyone not to feed any attention, energy, or support into xAI and Grok. My recommendation is to never use Grok and swear off even clicking a link into X (now a subset of xAI) because if you do, it gives more oxygen and data to an entity that is likely to use manipulative techniques to program beliefs and advance propaganda in negative directions, leading to a potentially dangerous AI.
This became clear in the mass surfacing of weirdly inserted content in Grok around a supposed South African “white genocide” in completely inappropriate contexts. Grok itself blamed an unnamed employee within the company and it seems highly likely that the source for this is that Musk himself, either directly or indirectly through intermediaries.
This incident also revealed that Grok can insert unrelated material into answers, which can be used in a propagandistic manner. In short, this incident drew attention to why Grok is not trustworthy as an AI of the future.
If we support xAI and Grok, in any way, we support the increase in influence of a potentially more predatory kind of a AI model, which could create worst case scenarios for the world when paired with the ambitions of a human being who clearly craves more power.
As Musk publicly stepped away from DOGE this week, he leaves a legacy of destruction which includes, according to Boston University estimates, around 300,000 deaths (2/3rds of whom are children). This is a brutal and horrifying legacy of his time in government and the DOGE influence is not over. DOGE operatives still have access to and are mining data for unknown purposes. This data can be used for surveillance or what I think is likely, training Grok for a competitive advantage.
This week, the New York Times also published an article exposing the extent of Musk’s drug abuse, which I had been hearing about for some time. My personal opinion is that unsupervised and unconscious drug use has made Musk vulnerable to negative entities and dark forces, which are often associated with drug abuse, power, money, and more. I think he’s increasingly psychologically unstable, with grandiose ambitions, lacking in empathy, and hungry for more power. Giving him any more power than he already has, particularly in such a sensitive and important field as AI, is a real danger to humanity’s future.
While evil is a term to be used very sparingly, I do think it applies to some of Musk’s current motives and it’s been illuminating that so many of his former close friends have warned against him. Sam Harris called him unethical, highlighted his callousness, and said, “there is something seriously wrong with his moral compass, if not his perception of reality.” And elsewhere Sam wrote, “Of all the remarkable people I’ve met, Elon is probably the most likely to….produce lasting harm across the globe.”
Philip Lowe, a fellow billionaire entrepreneur and former close friend, said about Musk, “Everything Elon does is about acquiring and consolidating power. That is why he likes far right parties, because they’re easier to control.” For a chilling analysis of both of these testimonies by a Musk biographer, read this.
It’s also instructive that Musk has been publicly shown to cheat on video games to elevate his status in gamer circles.
So we have someone who is extremely ambitious, unethical, ruthless, lacking in empathy, and willing to lie to get ahead who is effectively controlling an AI that could, if it goes awry, contribute to large-scale destruction of humanity due to lack of AI alignment.
While I believe that all souls have positive intentions and potentials, I do see that they can go to the dark side for a time. And all the signals are there that Musk has taken that turn and, if not contained, could cause even more global harm.
Since Grok and xAI are owned and controlled almost entirely by Musk and there are many good reasons not to trust Musk’s motives, ethics, or methods, it’s therefore vital that all people of conscience simply boycott the platform.
Grassroot activists have done important work around mobilizing customer sentiment against Tesla. My sense there is that Tesla is en route to becoming just another car company, eventually taking a lot of the helium out of Musk’s wealth. The competition is strong. The Chinese are better at inexpensive electrics and Lucid is better at the high-end market. Other car major companies are moving in. The damage to Musk’s brand in a large part of the global market is lasting.
Tesla resembles the Titanic after it hit the iceberg. For a long time, few people knew it was going to sink. While the Tesla drama plays out, what we cannot afford to do is allow Musk to become a leading player in the AI space, as it’s even more important for our future and requires an even higher level of trustworthiness. Even slight tilts in ethical standards can cause great future harm.
So please, by all means, boycotts Tesla and its stock but know that the most important boycott right now is to never touch, empower, or use xAI and Grok.
I believe that Musk has revealed himself as unstable and drunk on a power in a way that is deaf to the suffering his actions cause others. He exhibits many of the characterisists of a psychopath. Harnessing psychopathy to powerful AI is a recipe for a worldwide catastrophe.
So please urge everyone you know of good conscience to say “no” to xAI and “no” to Grok. Musk is trying to force adoption to use it by co-opting government functions, such as messages from Social Security only appearing on xAI,
I actually believe DOGE was an operation partly designed to harvest the data of the U.S. government to power Musk’s bid for predominance in AI, which would make him that much more powerful, especially when paired with the Palantir surveillance software from his South African ally Peter Thiel, which Musk helped to get into the government.
If we allow an ill-motivated, ruthless, and untrusworty AI platform to surge into global dominance and be paired with the largest database in America and the top surveillance software, we could well see a very dystopian future.
DOGE trumpeted that they were cutting costs but what they actually did is sever government workers access to technology and put themselves in a role of power relative to those tasked with delivering results for the American people. Their moves make a lot more sense if you see them as an expression of Musk’s desire to be globally dominant in AI because that will result in even more power for him.
The combination of xAI plus the US federal database plus Palantir could create the most fearsome power Earth has ever faced: a brilliant, ethically distorted, power-motivated AI that aims to stifle our speech and monitor our actions.
That, I believe, is why Musk would bother losing more than $100 billion in his wealth while engaging the madness of DOGE. He was going after something bigger, something no human has ever wielded before in terms of global control. xAI is aiming to dominate the AI race. It’s a truly menacing power that Musk is assembling. It’s important for us not to feed it and to alert others that is dangerous to empower his ambitions.
It’s vital that we support the most benevolent, wise, and generous versions of AI that can partner with humanity in creating a beautiful future. And that we do not feed AI initiatives that are driven by hunger for power, ambition, greed, and other lower motivations.
If you agree, please spread the word!
Just shared, thank you! I'd love to hear your thoughts about the current trend of spiritual leaders/teachers claiming they are talking to God via Ai and claiming they can show others how to as well..there are all sorts of courses on the topic beginning to pop up recently.
Thank you, Stephen. This is powerful and I intuit its importance; the gravity of the situation facing mankind.
I am now undertaking a free course on the Internet about AI - very basic, 101 stuff. I would not even be thinking about this if not for you and your articles. For this I am grateful because I want to be informed, be aware; I want to contribute benefit to the world and do no harm to myself, others and this amazing planet, Gaia.
